SCHOOL OF PRELIMINARY STUDIES

Director, Dr. Umar Saje

I would like to urge all IJMB and Remedial students in particular and the entire students of the University in general, to take advantage of this golden opportunity and dedicate themselves to their studies. This is only possible by being orderly and attending their classes as of when due and developing a positive reading culture.

History

The School of Preliminary Studies was established at the same times as the University in 2013. Its mandate is, among others, to enable the youth of Jigawa State wishing to pursue higher education to do their preliminary courses in IJMB and Remedial programmes if only to help them improve their chances of getting admission into tertiary institutions. The School also caters to the University’s instruction in General Studies courses, which are mandatory for all Nigerian universities.

Vision

The vision of the School is to provide excellent, broad and wide-ranging courses in both General and Preliminary Studies both for the University’s intake and students from Jigawa State secondary schools that require remedial instruction or preparation for university degree courses in Science and Arts and Humanities.

Mision

A key part of the School’s mission is to produce top quality materials for admission into Universities and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria and beyond.

Objectives

Among the objectives of the SGPS is to provide appropriate courses and training in the areas of Science, Arts, the Humanities and other fields of study preparatory to university education; provide another opportunity to secondary school leavers to remedy their academic deficiencies, and prepare for higher education; and promote the advancement of knowledge in Jigawa State through teaching, research, and related activities.
